Straight Prints- Studio back of heads

Work Diary- Studio back of heads

Evaluation
I found the studio shoot of portrayal involving the back of peoples head to be good. The overall shoot took more time then planned as you had to change the background and see which colours worked best for different photographs.

This is my favorite picture out go my shoot. i like the way her hair is not perfect and flows how it naturally would and it doesn't look to set up as if she was modelling for it. Her body appears to be slightly turned her left shoulder towards me although this was not intentional I think this adds a good effect.

I really like the look of this image and how the
black background worked so well. I slightly
highlighted to image to create this light
glowing affect around his head, I think this
works well. For this image I purposely put
him off center and asked him to tilt this head
towards. I like how this image turned out
and overall are pleased with most of
my work in the studio for this task.

Progression
If I was to take photos in the studio again for this specific topic I would like to use people who have different coloured hair to see how this works against different backgrounds, also I would like to try different angle however still only showing the back of heads and some slightly with the side of their heads.  I think that this style of work could work well if I was photographing people to show a certain hairstyle.

Straight Prints- Location back of head

Work Diary- Location back of heads

Evaluation

Overall I think I could have been more productive when taking photos for location back of heads. The first lot my images involved very busy background and were what I would consider to be messy. After coming back to the classroom and seeing my end results I had to go back out and shoot more for this particular topic.

This is one of my worst pictures for this topic as I think the background has to much going on and there to many objects in the background when the main focus should be on the back of the head. I think this image would have been okay if she was standing I fount of a brick wall as I do still like the way her hair lays and how the subject of the photograph is centered.

In my opinion this is my best photograph form the shoot. She was standing in fount of mirrored glass. Although it may appear there is a lot in the background I still feel that the focus is on her. I really like how her coat hood looks and how the subject is centred. I think this image may work very well in black and white.

Progression
If I was to go out again and shoot for this topic I would take into consideration what I learnt the first time and not involve such busy backgrounds in so many pictures and make sure I keep focus on the main subject, the person. I would also like to try shooing multiple people lined up or in a certain order and see how that works.
Below I placed some images which I could look at if I was to go and shot for this particular topic again.

Image Bank- Portraiture/ Back of heads

I think by looking at the back of heads imagery first it will help us focus on position and focuses on composition instead of just focusing on the face and how much we view this but also be able to see the background. There are some ways I like the studio back of heads however I prefer location back of heads which involve interesting and nice backgrounds.

Image Bank- Portraiture

Portraiture is represented in the images above in a variety of different ways. I like the way that by using this style you can show strong emotion and capture great detail in a simple image and create an images which could mean or suggest different things to different people. I like how the picture of the baby shows carefree and happiness whereas the picture of the women above shows independence and power I think this is an example of how portraiture is a style which helps us focus on the emotions of the model.

Definition Post- Portraiture

Definition

  • A portrait
  • A painting, drawing, photograph, or engraving of a person, especially one depicting only the face or head and shoulders
Describing Portraiture
  • Close up
  • Focused

I like the way in which the girl is holding her face, it makes people think that she is possibly sitting down and is thinking about something or is bored. I like how images like this can create questions as well as portrayed different emotions and ideas.

I positioning of the women's face in this photo I believe gives a greater effect and a more dramatic feel than if it was just straight on.

I like the way in which shadows have been used within this image to highlight certain aspects of her face.

I really like how this image is plain however portrays strong emotion within her facial expression, I also like how her hair slightly lines the outside of the images. I think the use of tone has been very effective here.

Straight Prints- Shape

Work Diary- Shape

Evaluation
Whilst shooting shape I found that anything could be consider as representing shape however only some would create a nice image. I tried many different ideas and think that most of them worked well. I like the finial result of my photographs however I do think that I could have completed the task with some better photographs.

Above is one of my images for shape I think this is one of my best photos I have for shape. I really like the way in which the shape is created, I like how you have the shape of the two lights and the pole plus the wire. I think that by only one light being on it highlights the shape of the lights and shows and unusual shape within the glass surrounding the bulb.

Although this was choose to be one of my finial images I do not like this picture. At the time it was taken as my camera was taking very blurred images and took this photo as a type of test shoot to see if I work out the issue. After it was choose I could see why, the hand create a good representation of shape, I would however have like to have taken this image of the hand on a clear background with a less busy surrounding.

Progression
If i was to continue with shape I would like to try some more unique and unusual shapes in which would create a better image. I would like to try and show shape involving light, for example photographing a candle flame and showing the shape it creates. I think that if you shoot shape in the studio it would come out well and you would be able to create images representing shape well.
I chose some images below as some inspiration as I feel if I was to take photos for shape again these would help create some more unique ideas and help improve my work.
